A recent controversy has broken out after SheaMoisture, a traditionally African American hair and skin care company, real eased a company including white women. This commercial offended many of

The company's traditional buyers. Many buyers felt as though the company was mocking their struggle by including women who typically do not face scrutiny for their natural hair. Some buyers also felt that it was simpleminded for the company to use white women to relate the necessity of a black product that was made for black people. Even though the company included a mixed female in the commercial, darker skinned buyers felt as though SheMoisture was supporting the prevalent stigma of colorism by by not using brown nor dark skinned women in the commercial.

The company removed the commercial and issued an apology to its consumer explaining that they were simply trying to expand their business by including people of all hair textures. Although an apology was issued, the damage was already done and a numerous number of consumers already agreed to boycott the company.
